1. Who We Are

WildCamp is operated by Blau House Media ("we", "us", "our"). For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Blau House Media is the data controller. You can contact us at support@wildcamp.io.

2. What We Collect and Why

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. This is handled by Clerk (our authentication provider). We do not store passwords — Clerk manages authentication securely. Lawful basis: contract performance — this data is necessary to provide you with a WildCamp account.

Search Queries

Your text messages to WildCamp (the camping questions you type) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. Anthropic processes these messages per their own Privacy Policy. We do not permanently store your conversation history on our servers. Lawful basis: contract performance — query processing is the core function of the Service.

Usage Data

We track the number of searches you perform each month to enforce free-tier limits. This count (a number, not the content of your searches) is stored in Upstash Redis and resets at the start of each calendar month. Lawful basis: contract performance and legitimate interest — necessary to operate the free/Pro tier system fairly.

Trip Data (Pro users)

If you are a Pro subscriber and use the trip planning feature, your saved trips and spot names are stored in Upstash Redis under your user ID. Lawful basis: contract performance.

Payment Information

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number or full payment details. Stripe provides us with a subscription status only. Lawful basis: contract performance and legal obligation.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool. It does not use cookies, does not collect personal information, and does not build cross-site profiles. We see aggregate page view data only. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in understanding how the Service is used to improve it.

3. What We Do Not Collect

  • Your GPS or device location — we never request location permissions
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Behavioral tracking data for advertising purposes
  • The text content of your searches (beyond what is sent to Anthropic in real time)

4. Third-Party Services and International Data Transfers

WildCamp relies on the following third-party services. Some of these are based in the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we rely on appropriate safeguards including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and/or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as applicable.

  • Clerk — authentication and user management (US)
  • Anthropic — AI query processing (US)
  • Stripe — payment processing (US, DPF certified)
  • Upstash — usage counter and trip storage (US/EU regions)
  • Vercel — hosting and anonymous analytics (US)
  • OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — map and geographic data (no personal data sent)
  • OpenTopoData — elevation data (no personal data sent)
  • NASA FIRMS — fire detection data (no personal data sent)

5. Data Retention

  • Monthly usage counters expire automatically after 35 days
  • Account data is retained until you delete your account
  • Trip data is retained until you delete it or your account
  • We do not retain conversation or search query content on our servers

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data. EU/EEA residents have these rights under the GDPR. To exercise any of them, email support@wildcamp.io.

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR) — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16) — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18) — request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20) — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to object (Art. 21) — object to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Rights related to automated decision-making (Art. 22) — we do not make solely automated decisions that significantly affect you

You may also delete your account directly from the account menu in the app, which removes your account and usage data immediately.

If you are an EU/EEA resident and believe we have not handled your data lawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (DPA). A list of EU DPAs is available at edpb.europa.eu.

7. Children

WildCamp is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. We will note the revision date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (e.g., via email or an in-app notice). Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
