OpenStreetMap
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Road access, trail networks, and land-use polygons are sourced from OpenStreetMap.
Overpass API
Geographic queries are powered by the Overpass API, a read-only API for OpenStreetMap data, with fallback to overpass.kumi.systems.
Elevation Data
OpenTopoData
Terrain and elevation data is provided by OpenTopoData.
USGS 3DEP (3D Elevation Program)
Underlying elevation data sourced from the USGS 3D Elevation Program, a public domain dataset produced by the U.S. Geological Survey.
NASA/METI ASTER GDEM
Elevation above 60°N — northern British Columbia, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, where SRTM has no coverage — is sourced from ASTER GDEM, a product of NASA and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI).
Public Land Data
U.S. Forest Service & Bureau of Land Management
Public land boundaries, dispersed camping rules, and road designations reference data published by the USDA Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Always verify current status directly with the relevant agency.
BC Open Maps (TANTALIS)
British Columbia Crown land status is derived from the TANTALIS surface ownership layer published by the Province of British Columbia via BC Open Maps, used under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia. Outside BC, Crown land status is inferred rather than verified — always confirm with the relevant provincial ministry.
Fire & Smoke Data
NASA FIRMS
Active fire detection data is sourced from NASA FIRMS (Fire Information for Resource Management System).
Canadian Wildland Fire Information System (CWFIS)
Canadian fire perimeters come from the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, produced by Natural Resources Canada / Canadian Forest Service and used under the Open Government Licence – Canada. CWFIS perimeters are satellite-derived and carry no containment figures. Always check current provincial fire bans before lighting any fire.
